Letting Jesus Hold the Helm
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you... ”— Isaiah 43:2
Life has a way of throwing us into sudden, overwhelming storms: a tough diagnosis, a broken relationship, or just the heavy weight of daily anxiety. When the waves start crashing, our natural reaction is to grab the wheel and try to steer ourselves out of the mess.
There’s an old hymn that captures the moment we realize we can't do it alone: “Jesus, Savior, pilot me Over life’s tempestuous sea... Chart and compass come from Thee: Jesus, Savior, pilot me.” Notice what the song is asking. It’s not just praying for the storm to magically vanish; it’s asking Jesus to step in and pilot the ship.
When the disciples were caught in a massive storm on the Sea of Galilee, they panicked because they were looking at the height of the waves. But Jesus was right there in the boat with them. The moment they called out to Him, everything changed.
If you’re in a storm today, take a deep breath. Stop trying to fight the current in your own strength. Hand the wheel over to the One who actually commands the wind and the waves. He knows where the hidden rocks are, He knows the way through, and He won't let your boat capsize.
Prayer:
Jesus, I’m tired of trying to steer through this storm on my own. I step aside and hand the wheel to You. Be my Pilot today. Guide my steps, calm my heart, and carry me through. ~Amen.
