Gold in Broken Places
“And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. ”— Jeremiah 18:4 (KJV)
Have you ever looked at your life and thought, "I’m just too damaged for this”?
We’ve all been there. Life hits hard, and suddenly we feel chipped, cracked, or completely shattered. The world usually tells us that once something is broken, its value drops to zero, so we try our best to hide the scars and sweep the painful pieces under the rug.
But there’s a traditional Japanese art form called Kintsugi that looks at brokenness totally differently. When a precious piece of pottery breaks, artisans don't throw it away, and they don't try to hide the cracks with clear glue. Instead, they carefully piece it back together using lacquer dusted with pure gold.
When they're done, the cracks aren't disguised they’re highlighted. The vessel actually becomes more valuable and beautiful precisely because it was broken and mended.
That’s exactly what God does with us.
"But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand." Isaiah 64:8 (KJV)
Notice what Jeremiah says about that clay in the Potter's hand. It was marred but it didn't fall out of His grip and He didn't toss it in the trash. He simply worked the clay again and remade it into something good.
Grace is God’s Kintsugi. He doesn't discard you because of your hurt, mistakes, or trauma. He takes those broken places and fills them with the gold of His love, mercy, and Holy Spirit.
Your cracks aren't proof that you're ruined. They’re the very places where God’s light and power can shine through to the world around you.
Prayer:
Lord, I’m putting my broken pieces back into Your hands today. You know every crack and every place where I feel damaged. Fill those painful places with Your grace, heal my heart, and let my scars show others just how good and faithful You are. In Jesus Name, Amen.
